StatSharp Betting Insights
The football season is settling in, and the early results are starting to reveal where the betting market has consistently missed. This week, we highlight the college football bets that have produced the biggest profits so far, along with StatSharp model edges, game simulations, betting systems, team and coach trends, and a player prop angle worth watching as another loaded weekend gets underway.
“Bet against road teams coming off a conference loss by 7 points or fewer when facing an opponent coming off an upset road win. Since 2022, this system is 28-8 ATS (77.8%) with +19.2 units and a 48.5% ROI.”
This system targets two teams arriving from dramatically different emotional situations. A painful close conference loss can be especially difficult to shake when a team immediately has to go back on the road, while an underdog returning home after an upset victory often carries renewed confidence and energy into the following week. The historical results have been decisive: 21 of the 36 qualifiers (58.3%) covered the spread by at least seven points, suggesting the effect has often been much larger than a marginal ATS advantage.
That setup applies directly to Michigan at Minnesota. The Wolverines are trying to regroup after losing to Iowa on the final play at home, while Minnesota returns home following an impressive upset victory at Washington. One team is attempting to recover quickly from a devastating result; the other enters with confidence after exceeding expectations on the road. The system says that contrast has historically favored the team carrying the positive momentum—in this case, Minnesota.
Touchdown Tee Keeps Paying
“Tee Higgins is 16-10 (61.5%) to score an anytime touchdown since the 2024 season, producing +13.9 units and a 53.5% ROI at an average price of +156.”
There is a reason “Touchdown Tee Higgins” has become such a natural description. At 6-foot-4 with a huge catch radius, excellent body control and the strength to win contested catches, Higgins is built for scoring opportunities. He does not need massive reception volume to make an impact; his size and ability to position himself against defensive backs make him especially dangerous near the goal line and on isolated matchups outside.
The 16-10 record may not look as overwhelming as some of StatSharp’s other player-prop trends, but the price is what makes this one stand out. Higgins has averaged +156 odds in these situations, so a 61.5% hit rate has produced an impressive +13.9 units and 53.5% ROI. Against Jacksonville, bettors do not need Higgins to pile up catches or yards—just one successful red-zone opportunity for Touchdown Tee to cash another plus-money ticket.
“Bet against Florida State against teams outscoring opponents by at least 17 points per game. Since the 2024 season, the Seminoles are 0-6 ATS in this spot, with an average line of +6.3 and a -100% ROI.”
Florida State’s slide under Mike Norvell has been most obvious when the Seminoles step up in class. Against teams dominating opponents on the scoreboard, FSU has repeatedly failed to match the physicality and efficiency required to stay competitive, losing these qualifying games by an average score of 39.7 to 20.7. The issue has not been one bad matchup or one rough season; it has become a recurring sign that Florida State is no longer operating at the same level as the better programs on its schedule. Virginia fits that profile this week, making the Cavaliers the side supported by the trend.
Tigers Thrive After Road Losses
“Bet on Eli Drinkwitz after a road loss to a conference rival. Missouri is 11-3 ATS (78.6%) in this spot, with an average line of -4.2 and a +50.0% ROI.”
Eli Drinkwitz’s Missouri teams have consistently responded after disappointing conference road losses, averaging 32.6 points while holding opponents to 20.0 in the following game. That bounceback profile fits particularly well this week: the Tigers return home after a tough loss at Mississippi State, while Florida arrives after an emotional victory over Ole Miss. Those contrasting situations can create value when one team is refocused after disappointment and the other is coming down from a high. Missouri’s 11-3 ATS record suggests Drinkwitz has been particularly effective at getting his teams reset in exactly this spot.
Panthers Keep Bouncing Back
“Bet on Carolina after one or more consecutive losses. Since the 2025 season, the Panthers are 10-0 ATS in this spot, with an average line of +5.3 and a +90.9% ROI.”
One of the biggest reasons for Carolina’s improvement under Dave Canales has been its ability to respond after adversity. The Panthers won the NFC South last season despite an uneven start, and that same resilience shows up clearly in the betting results. Carolina has gone a perfect 10-0 ATS after a loss since the start of 2025, averaging 25.8 points while holding opponents to 19.2. That profile suggests this team has consistently avoided letting one poor performance snowball into another. With Detroit coming to Charlotte on Sunday night, Carolina once again enters a familiar bounceback spot that has been extremely profitable for bettors.
Five weeks into the college football season, several teams have already developed remarkably profitable betting profiles. The samples are still small, but looking at units won—not just winning percentage—can reveal where bettors have been rewarded most consistently across spreads, money lines, totals and first-half markets.
Massachusetts has been an absolute money-line machine. The Minutemen are a perfect 4-0 straight up and have generated an eye-popping +25.0 units for bettors backing them on the money line. That is easily one of the largest profits on the StatSharp board so far. UMass has also been profitable against the spread at 3-1, but the bigger story is how lucrative simply betting the Minutemen to win has been.
Another major winner has been Georgia State in the first half. The Panthers are 4-0 on the first-half money line, returning +8.1 units and a 35.6% ROI. They are also 4-0 ATS in the opening half, producing another +4.0 units. Few teams have been as consistently profitable before halftime, regardless of whether bettors have taken the points or played Georgia State to lead outright.
For full-game spread bettors, Mississippi State and Duke have both been perfect 4-0 ATS, earning +4.0 units apiece. Mississippi State has been especially impressive relative to market expectations, while Duke has returned an 89.1% ROI for anyone backing the Blue Devils each week.
Sometimes the easiest money has come from knowing whom not to back. Georgia Tech is 0-4 ATS, costing its supporters -4.5 units with a -100% ROI. Simply taking the opponent against the Yellow Jackets has yet to lose against the number.
Totals have produced several clean trends as well. Alabama games are 4-0 to the Over, good for +4.0 units and a 91.3% ROI. The Crimson Tide have been profitable in another market too: Alabama’s own team total has also gone Over in all four games.
At the other extreme, Washington’s team total has gone Under in all four games, returning +4.0 units with a 90.1% ROI. Specialized markets like team totals can uncover profitable patterns that are hidden when bettors focus exclusively on the full-game number.
The first half has offered still more opportunities. Baylor is 4-0 ATS before halftime, producing +4.0 units and a 95.2% ROI, while Rutgers first-half Overs are 4-0, returning +4.2 units and a 95.5% ROI.
Finally, Kentucky has been another profitable money-line play. The Wildcats are 3-1 straight up and have returned +6.8 units, showing how quickly plus-money victories can outperform conventional spread betting.
The takeaway isn’t to blindly chase every undefeated betting record. It is to identify where the market has repeatedly mispriced the same team or game environment, then decide whether the underlying reason still exists before putting money behind the next qualifier.
StatSharp has run our Power Rating and Simulation models for some of this weekend’s biggest matchups. Below are the projected scores, stats, betting lines, and edges our models highlight for key games on the slate.
Spread: South Carolina -3 ATS Edge:Kentucky +3 (+9.0) Total Edge:Over 54.5 (+4.3) Takeaway: The simulation flips the expected winner, projecting Kentucky to win outright despite entering as the road underdog.
1H Line: South Carolina -1.5 · Total 27.5 Projected 1H Score: Kentucky 18 · South Carolina 13 1H Edge:Kentucky +1.5 (+6.5) · Over 27.5 (+3.0)
Key Simulation Stats:
• Rushing: Kentucky 30–97 (3.3 YPR) · South Carolina 36–145 (4.1 YPR)
• Passing: Kentucky 27–298 (11.2 YPA) · South Carolina 40–282 (7.1 YPA)
• Total Yards: Kentucky 396 · South Carolina 427
• Yards/Play: Kentucky 7.0 · South Carolina 5.7
Simulation Edge Summary:
The most striking part of this projection is Kentucky’s passing efficiency. The Wildcats are projected for nearly 300 passing yards at 11.2 yards per attempt, giving Kenny Minchey and Will Stein’s offense a major big-play advantage even though South Carolina is projected to produce more total yardage. Kentucky’s offense has also shown increasing balance behind a deep backfield featuring Jason Patterson, C.J. Baxter and Javonte Barnes.
South Carolina still has explosive potential with LaNorris Sellers and Nyck Harbor, and the simulation expects the Gamecocks to move the ball. The difference is efficiency: Kentucky is projected to gain 7.0 yards per play compared with 5.7 for South Carolina. Net result:Kentucky +3 is the strongest simulation side, with the Wildcats also projected to win outright. Over 54.5 is another meaningful edge, while the first-half numbers reinforce both positions with Kentucky +1.5 and Over 27.5.
Ohio State

Projection: Ohio State 30 · Iowa 14 Power Ratings (Off/Def): Ohio State 51/25 · Iowa 38/20
Spread: Ohio State -14 Cover Probability: Ohio State 55.2% · Iowa 44.8% ATS Edge:Ohio State -14 (+2.0)
Money Line: Ohio State -625 · Iowa +455 Win Probability: Ohio State 91.1% · Iowa 8.9% ML Edge: Ohio State +4.9%
Total: 45.5 Over/Under Probability: Over 47.4% · Under 52.6% O/U Edge: Under 45.5 (+1.5)
Game Read:
StatSharp projects Ohio State to win by 16 points, giving the Buckeyes a modest edge even at a two-touchdown spread. The biggest challenge is obvious: Iowa’s defense is elite and should make Ohio State work for every possession. Still, the Buckeyes’ offensive rating is substantially higher, and the combination of Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith gives Ryan Day an explosive passing-game advantage that Iowa has not yet faced this season.
Iowa’s best path is to shorten the game with Hank Brown, Kamari Moulton and a physical rushing attack while leaning on its defense to keep the score compressed. That approach also explains why the model shows only a slight preference to the Under despite projecting Ohio State into the 30s. Net result:Ohio State -14 is the preferred side, but the edge is relatively modest. The money line is priced too heavily to be especially attractive, while Under 45.5 rates as only a secondary lean.
Total: 51.5 Over/Under Probability: Over 49.3% · Under 50.7% O/U Edge: No meaningful model edge
Team Totals:
Jacksonville 24.5 — Over 54.2% (+1.5)
Cincinnati 26.5 — Under 54.1% (+1.5)
Game Read:
StatSharp sees this matchup as much closer than the market, with Jacksonville actually projected to win by one despite catching 2.5 points. The Jaguars carry a slight advantage in both the offensive and defensive ratings, and Trevor Lawrence has enough weapons around him in Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers to challenge Cincinnati throughout the game. On the other side, Joe Burrow still gives the Bengals one of the league’s most dangerous passing attacks with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, which is why the model stops well short of projecting a comfortable Jacksonville win.
Net result:Jacksonville +2.5 is the preferred side, while the +120 money line also offers a solid +7.3% edge with the Jaguars projected above 50% to win outright. The full-game total is essentially a pass, and the team-total edges are too small to rate as primary positions.
