Who's Beating Expectations and Who's Falling Short?
Player props aren’t about identifying the NFL’s best players—they’re about finding where actual production continues to differ from sportsbook expectations. Through the early part of the 2026 season, several players have developed striking Over and Under patterns that suggest the market is still adjusting.
Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren has gone 5-0 to the Over on both rushing yards and rushing + receiving yards, while Carolina quarterback Bryce Young is 4-0 to the Over on passing yards and completions. At the other end, Saquon Barkley has gone 0-4 against his rushing + receiving yardage props, while Justin Herbert has yet to cash an Over on either passing yards or completions in five qualifying games.
Those are only a few of the players standing out. Our latest report examines the NFL’s strongest early-season prop performers and underperformers—and, more importantly, why those trends may be developing.
StatSharp has run our Power Rating and Simulation models for some of this weekend’s biggest matchups. Below are the projected scores, stats, betting lines, and edges our models highlight for key games on the slate.
Total: 50.5 Over/Under Probability: Over 41.3% · Under 58.7% O/U Edge:Under 50.5 (+5.5)
Game Read:
Alabama deserves to be favored, but the StatSharp ratings see a much tighter Third Saturday in October than the market does. Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide are projected to win by only three, leaving more than a field goal of value with Tennessee +7.5. Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell gives Alabama a dangerous run-pass threat, but the Tide enter Knoxville without leading receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams. On the other side, Josh Heupel can lean on running back DeSean Bishop and a Tennessee rushing attack that has been one of the SEC’s best.
Net result:Tennessee +7.5 is the preferred side, with the model giving the Vols a 62.8% cover probability. The +270 money line also carries significant theoretical value with Tennessee winning 40% of the model’s projection, while Under 50.5 is a strong secondary position. StatSharp still makes Alabama the more likely winner—but not by anything close to the margin the betting market is asking the Tide to cover.
Spread: Notre Dame -10.5 ATS Edge:Notre Dame -10.5 (+8.5) Total Edge:Under 46.5 (+8.7) Takeaway: The simulation sees substantially more separation between these top-10 teams than the betting market does.
Simulation Edge Summary:
This matchup is driven by a massive projected efficiency gap. Notre Dame is expected to nearly double BYU in total offense, 363-186, while holding the Cougars to only 3.4 yards per play. The biggest mismatch comes through the air, where Notre Dame projects for 250 yards at 9.0 per attempt compared with just 125 yards and 4.9 per attempt for BYU.
Net result: The simulation produces two major full-game positions: Notre Dame -10.5 and Under 46.5. Notre Dame is projected to win by 20 points, while the expected 38-point total sits well below the market number. The first-half projection reinforces the same game script, with Notre Dame expected to lead 16-5 and cover the -6 before halftime.

Atlanta 23.5 — Over 57.2% (+2.5)
Game Read: Caleb Williams is trending toward a return after missing three games with a hamstring injury, but the StatSharp ratings suggest his presence may not be enough to justify Chicago being favored on the road. Ben Johnson’s offense gets a major upgrade if Williams is cleared, particularly with Rome Odunze available as his top outside weapon, but the model still makes Atlanta the better side. The Falcons counter with Michael Penix Jr., Bijan Robinson and Drake London in Kevin Stefanski’s offense and project to win by three.
Net result:Atlanta +1.5 is the strongest model position, with a 62.5% cover probability, while the Falcons’ -102 money line also shows an attractive +8.1% edge. Chicago team total Under 26.5 is the best derivative angle. Williams’ return would clearly improve the Bears—but the model says the market may be giving Chicago too much credit for getting its quarterback back.

“Bet against teams that have lost two of their last three when facing an opponent that has won four of its last five. Since 2022, the opposing side is 69-34 ATS (67.0%), producing +31.6 units and a 27.9% ROI.”
This is a useful momentum angle without the usual inflated-price problem. One team is clearly trending upward while the other is beginning to slide, but neither is riding the type of extended winning or losing streak that immediately attracts heavy public attention. The result can be a market that has not fully adjusted to the growing separation between the teams.
Since 2022, backing the surging side in this setup has produced a strong 69-34 ATS record, with those teams outscoring their opponents by an average of 27.0-19.9. Nearly 38% of qualifiers have covered by at least seven points, so the advantage has often extended well beyond the closing number. Buffalo fits the positive side this week after winning four of its last five, while Las Vegas enters having dropped two of three. The system suggests that when two teams are quietly moving in opposite directions, that momentum has tended to continue before the betting market fully prices it in.
Love’s Big Plays Beat Completion Volume
“Jordan Love is 17-6 (73.9%) to the Under on completions in conference games since the 2024 season, producing +9.9 units with a 36.7% ROI.”
Jordan Love doesn’t need to complete 25 passes to produce a big passing day. Unlike the more methodical style Green Bay fans became accustomed to with Aaron Rodgers, Love is far more willing to attack downfield and generate chunks through explosive plays. That can create strong yardage and scoring numbers without requiring a high completion count.
The pattern has been especially pronounced against NFC opponents. Love has averaged only 18.5 completions in these qualifying games against an average prop of 20.6, finishing Under by an average margin of 2.1 completions. That has produced a strong 17-6 Under record despite an average price of -117. Dallas comes to Lambeau Sunday night, and another aggressive, vertical Green Bay passing script could once again favor production through the big play rather than a long series of short completions.
“Bet on Greg Schiano as a road underdog of 7 points or less. In his two stints at Rutgers, Schiano is 16-6 ATS (72.7%) in this role, with an average line of +3.8 and a +35.6% ROI.”
Greg Schiano has been remarkably reliable when Rutgers is asked to stay competitive away from home. Across his long, two-stint tenure with the Scarlet Knights, his teams have consistently handled the role of a short road underdog—exactly the type of game in which preparation, defense and limiting mistakes can keep an opponent from creating separation.
The results go beyond simply covering numbers. Rutgers has actually outscored opponents 25.5-20.9 on average in these qualifying games despite catching an average of 3.8 points. That helps explain the exceptional 16-6 ATS record: Schiano’s teams have frequently been priced as modestly inferior on the road while performing more like an evenly matched—or better—opponent. Rutgers gets that familiar assignment again Saturday at Maryland, putting the Scarlet Knights on the favorable side of one of Schiano’s most dependable betting profiles.
McVay Keeps Bad Teams Under Control
“Bet Under in Sean McVay home games against teams with a winning percentage of 25% or worse. The Under is 8-1 (88.9%) in these spots, with an average total of 47.2 and a +69.7% ROI.”
The popular image of the Rams is still Sean McVay dialing up an aggressive, high-flying offense, but these mismatches have played out very differently. When facing bottom-tier opponents at home, McVay has generally had little reason to turn games into shootouts. Instead, Los Angeles has controlled tempo, protected leads and forced weaker teams to sustain long drives against a defense that has consistently handled overmatched offenses.
The results are striking: these games have averaged just 40.8 combined points against an average closing total of 47.2, with the Rams winning by an average score of 26.4-14.4. That profile fits Arizona this week. If Los Angeles gets control early, the more likely script may be methodical offense, limited risk and a defense forcing the Cardinals to earn every yard—exactly the kind of environment that has produced an 8-1 Under record for McVay in this situation.
Titans Keep Finding New Ways to Fail
“Bet against Tennessee versus defenses allowing at least 5.65 yards per play. Since the 2024 season, the Titans are 1-13 ATS (7.1%) in this spot, with an average line of +4.5 and a -86.4% ROI.”
Another episode of “How are the Titans so bad?” Tennessee has somehow been at its worst in matchups that should give its offense a chance to breathe. Against poor defensive teams, the Titans have repeatedly failed to exploit the weakness, producing just 16.2 points per game while allowing 28.4.
That is what makes the 1-13 ATS record so striking. Tennessee has usually been getting points—an average of +4.5—yet still hasn’t come close to meeting market expectations. Instead of weak opposing defenses creating favorable offensive conditions, these games have exposed just how difficult it has been for Tennessee to sustain drives and keep pace. Indianapolis fits the qualifying profile Sunday, putting the Colts on the favorable side of one of the league’s more extreme recent team trends.
